This page reflects several year's work on my mother's Danish Svendsen part of my family and my father's Burrington side of my family.

I have been researching the Svendsen's in the Danish churchbooks since 1999. I have only recently begun to delve into the realm of the Burringtons. My Danish half comes from Alsted herred, Sorø amt (county), on the island of Sealand in Denmark. My grandfather, Peder Johannes (John Peter) Svendsen immigrated in 1914 on the SS United States (not the famous liner but the old steamer). He was born in a house called Sejehuset in a small village called Slaglille in Alsted, Sorø amt in 1892. His mother's family had lived in the house for generations. I have traced his father's family (Jacob Conrad Svendsen) back to Holsteinborg on the southern coast of Sealand not too far from Slaglille still in Sorø amt. Jacob Conrad was born in Førslev in 1824 to Jacob Peter Svendsen and Sophie Charlotte Husum. Sophie's parents were Andreas Husum and Birgette Møller of Holsteinborg. I am still looking for Jacob Peter's parents. Indications point to somewhere in Slagelse. I have located Danish relatives of John Peter's youngest brother, Olaf. However I am still trying to find the Danish relatives of the rest of his 11 brothers and sisters. If you are out there and you read this, please e-mail me! Also I have pictures of Slaglille on my homepage at Rootsweb at this address: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~svendsen/

I have learned that my Burringtons came to Wisconsin by way of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. Most of the Burringtons in Green county Wisconsin can be traced back to a man by the name of Ruben Burrington who was one of the first Burringtons to arrive in the area. I have not yet found the immigrant ancestor for these English Burringtons. I have only just started on this family so there are lots of gaps. Again, I ask any Burringtons who read this to please contact me.
