Francis McQuiggan was born about 1790 near Arboe, County Tyrone, Ireland. At the age of 16 yrs he left and never heard from home after. In 1808, he joined the British Army , was sent to the West Indies, then to Canada and was with the Army at Queenston Hieghts and at Lundy's Lane. He worked as a Drs. Assistance. He received his discharge from the army dated Queenston, 1815 after serving 7 years 100 days. For his services he was given a grant of 200 acres of land of his choice. He settled on Lot 6, Con.3, Township of Bayham, County of Elgin, two miles west of Vienna, Ont. Here on the south end of his lot he built a Log House, where he lived for 10 years as a Bachelor. He was also commissioned by the government to administer the Crown Deeds for this district. He then married Rosenna Beaman on May 22, 1825. They had 11 children. Francis died, Nov.20th, 1851 and buried at the Edison Cemetery, Vienna, Ont. Roseanna then married Jerimiah Taylor. He went to Indianna to visit a sick sister and was never heard from again.. Roseanna died in 1884 and was buried beside Francis |
