SUBJECTS OF INTEREST The BICKEL family of Massenbach, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. Johannes Pauli Bickel, born July 18, 1618, died, in Massenbach, on June 26, 1706. His descendant Georg Wilhelm Bickel, born August 28, 1802, landed in New York, NY, on the Barque Paoli, on July 5, 1838. The family settled in Hocking County, OH. The Dörr and Schmalzhaf families also came from Massenbach. Samuel WYCKOFF, born c. 1776. He lived for many years in Greene Co., PA. In the late 1820's he moved to what is now Beaver Twp., Noble Co., OH. Then in 1837, he moved to Hocking Co., OH. Family tradition states that he married an Indian woman named Saynay. St. Georgs Evangelische Kirche, Massenbach (178 KB) This is a photo of the old St. Georgs Evangelische Kirche (St. George's Lutheran Church) in Massenbach. It was built c.1490 and demolished in 1912 to make room for a newer and larger church building. The Seven Daughters of Lewis & Sarah Jane Bickel (579 KB) Lewis and Sarah Jane Bickel had seven daughters as well as five sons who survived to adulthood. This is a photo of the daughter taken about 1922 near Union Furnace, Hocking County, Ohio
