Jennifer & Robert's Wedding - Alana Decided She Wanted to be The Center Of Attention
By Jennifer Andrews
Robert and I got engaged on December 26, 1993 and we were married on January 15, 1994 (that's right 20 days after we got engaged we got married). There was lots of speculation about why we got married so fast but the truth is we both just wanted to be married and we did not want the stress of a big wedding production. There was 26 people in attendance, our immediate family and a few very close friends.
As you would expect, things were a bit rushed with only 20 days to plan but we pulled it off. The day before the wedding I was so nervous that I was physically ill. I got through that, and by the day of the wedding I was so calm that mom thought something was wrong with me. As luck would have it we had a snow storm the night before and it was the COLDEST day of the year (well below 0 degrees Fahrenheit). The storm and cold weather did not bring me down, I had a lot to do and no time to worry about bad weather. I had to get my hair done, nails, pick up flowers, set-up for the dinner we were having back at my apartment after the ceremony, etc. and through all of this I dragged my sister with me (she was my maid of honor). I was really calm but I did not know until later that she was REALLY nervous.
Everything went well and we got to the church on time. We are in the middle of the ceremony and I heard my mother in a LOUD whisper saying, "sit down, sit down." As I wonder what she is talking about, I turn around I see my brother jump over the Prew and catch my sister as she passes out. Alana is out cold, with her eyes rolling to the back of her head. I don't know how he knew she was about to pass out, I don't think he even knows how he knew but he was there just in the nick of time (I've always said Ronald is a great person to have around in a crisis he was definitely the hero of the day!).
The whole chapel erupts in activity. My rather excitable Aunt Angie starts screaming, my other Aunt Shelia who is a nurse starts slapping Alana across the face, others where were a little teary eyed during the ceremony are now openly crying and finally the minister is yelling at Robert and I to get back (we had gone to see what happened to Alana). FOOTNOTE ABOUT THE MINISTER - The person who was supposed to marry us was sick, this was his stand in. He was a rather interesting man, when we went to meet him he said he did not believe in marriage and if it were up to him he would not marry anyone. Needless to say we did not have a good relationship with this man. Anyway, back to the story......Alana finally got up and the ceremony proceded. Alana was so embarressed that see cried for must of the day. The picture on the left was immediately after the ceremony when I try to make her feel better. We both end up crying and laughing at the same time.
