The Walsh family came to America on the same ship as the Scullys, which arrived in New York City on June 14, 1852. They settled in New Jersey. Patrick Scully traveled to New Jersey to court Honora.
Patrick told his daughter Mary that his parents lived southwest of Clonmel, in County Tipperary, Ireland. During the time of the potato famine, the Scully family planted new, non-infected potato seed, which enabled them to have enough money to come to America. The name Scully is from the Irish word for scholar. Patrick and his family came to America on June 14, 1852, entering at the port of New York City. They had five children born in Ireland:
