Find Family
I am searching for the BLUM-GRIGOSCHAT families. KARL FREDERICK BLUM married AUGUSTE GRIGOSCHAT 23 April 1910 in Grand Rapids, MI at Immaunel Lutheran Church. Karl was born 27 Feb 1885 in Mariampole (Marijampole), Poland/Russia. He emigrated from Bremen, Germany and arrived at the port in Baltimore, Maryland on or about the 23 Sept 1904. I belive that his parents names were FRED and MARY BLUM. Fred stayed in Germany and remarried a widow woman by the name of EIKO, possible maiden name Grigoschat, and raise another family. We do not know much about the families left behind in Germany. Auguste's parent's names were August Grigoschat and Heirette Spurgat. They were married 9 September 1883 in Vilkaviskis. August was suppose to have made many trips to America bringing his family over. Their children where Anna, Emily, Frederick, Auguste, Minnie, Helen, Alexander and August Grigoschat. Emily and Auguste married Blum brothers and Minnie and Helen married Nowak brothers. Anna married Ludwig Gleidt. Ludwig eyes were bad and they knew he could not make it into America so they stayed behind in Germany. Their children were Frederick, Emilie, Wilhelm, Richard, Emma, Olga, Edward, Martha, Erna and Irene. I have a picture of this family taken during WW I. In 1984 we made a trip to Germany and met Richard, Erna and Irene but we couldn't communicate to them that we would like to know the history of the family. They did give us a transcript of a short statement of the family of August and Heiriette taken by the camp commander of the SS group comando on 29 September 1941. This statement list their marriage date and their parents names. August parent's were Adam Grigoschat and Heinriette Berwing. Heirette parent's were Matheas Spurgat and Wilhemina Keller. I have a friend, Cynthia, in Wisconsin who has gotten very useful information. She visited the Lithuanian American Genealogy Society in Chicago, which led Cynthia to write the Lithuanian State Historical Archives and from them received information from the Vilkaviskis Evangelic Lutheran Church. Many of the names in these records appear in our Grand Rapids, MI relations. These names are Blum, Grigoschat, Spurgat and Henk.If anyone has any knowledge of any of these families that are in Germany or elsewhere, please contact me. I am willing to share all the information that I have on the American side. Thanks to my mother-in-law, Anna Blum Anderson, we got all of her family down on paper before she passed away in April of 1995.
