2. REV. WILLIAM WATKINS⁴ FARTHING (DUDLEY³, WILLIAM², RICHARD¹) was born August 25, 1782 in Wake Co., NC, and died January 24, 1827 in Bethel, Watauga Co., NC. He married MARY POLLY WHITE HALLIBURTON February 09, 1804, daughter of THOMAS HALLIBURTON and MARTHA HUMPHREYS. She was born August 09, 1784 in Person, NC, and died August 22, 1844 in Bethel, Watauga Co., NC.

Notes for REV. WILLIAM WATKINS FARTHING:
Rev. William Watkins Farthing was a Baptist preacher sent out by the old missionary society to preach in the mountains. He ministered in Three Fork and Cove Creek churches, as well as school houses and dwellings. After his father died, he sold all his possessions in Wake County, NC and moved to Watauga Co., NC in the fall of 1826. He bought 488 acres of land from Benjamin Webb and paid $2000 for it. He only lived for a month after he moved. His son's carried out his ministry.
