Notes for RICHARD ISAACS: Hi Greg, My name is Janice Isaacs Pilkington and I descend from Richard Isaacs, I, b 1765 m Elenor \\ possibly Robbins. I saw your post on Rootsweb for the marriage of Richard and Elizabeth Estep d/o Shadrack and Ruth Dugger. I'm wondering what documentation you have for the marriage of Elizabeth and Richard? I too think Richard might have married Elizabeth Estep as a second marriage but if he did it would probably have been aft 1800. The reason I believe this is information that I have gathered on Richard. There is a family history done by his G-Grandson, Andrew J. Isaacs b 1851 which was found in the the Carroll County Museum by J.R. Jones. This history gives the name of Richard Isaacs as the father of Elijah Isaacs b June 7, 1785 in Randolph Co., NC. The name of Elijah's mother is given as Elenor. Elijah moved to IN sometime around 1829 and he also named a dau. Elenor. She married Isaac Ridge in Ashe Co., NC March 27, 1825. Elenor and Isaacs also moved to Carroll Co., IN. My G-G-Grandfather is Richard Isaacs, II, b 1793 m Lillianna Swift b 1800. They did not name any children Elizabeth but did name a dau. Nellie (common nickname for Elenor). Another source gives me the information that Richard, I, named a dau. Elenor b about 1800. I have no documentation for this but there is an unknown female under 10 on the 1810 Census in his household. There were three males u/ 10 b between 1800-1810. We know two of these and suspect that they too are Richard's. One is Jesse Isaacs who m Polly Smith in 1822 in Ashe Co., and the other is Enos b abt 1805 who m Jain/Jane Moody in Ashe Co., NC in 1828. Enos and Jane moved to Carroll Co., sometime bef 1832. Richard, I, died about 1815/6, we know this because of a land document in 1818 for his son Richard, II which states that Richard, I, is now deceased. I've been trying to track the children of the males b 1800-1810 to see how they named their children. We know Enos named a dau. Elizabeth. She was b May 21, 1834 and m Augustus Matthews. We also have a possibility for the third male. He is named Nathan Isaacs and he was b in Ashe Co., NC in 1806. Nathan also named a dau. Elizabeth but no Elenors. So you see why Elizabeth might be a second marriage for Richard. The three young males MIGHT belong to Elizabeth. They all went North with relatives at a later date, around the late 1820's to IN. There is also another article written by Rev. Eli Caruthers in 1854 about the Rev. War in NC and on page 65, he gives information that Richard Isaacs was living in the household of Capt./Col. John Bryant when Bryant was killed by Col. David Fanning in March of 1782 in Randolph Co., NC. There is good evidence that Richard's first spouse might be Elenor Robbins. The dau. of John Bryant is Ann who m Isaac Robbins of Randolph Co., NC. There are quite a few Elenors in these Randolph Co., Robbins families but we haven't placed her in any at this point. I would appreciate anything that you could contribute to this information. I had contacted another source who had their information that Richard's spouse was Elizabeth Estep. This is a letter I received as a result; I hope this goes through. You sent me a letter back in March, 1998, concerning the Isaacs line. At that time, you requested information on the source of my information on the marriage of Richard Isaacs and Elizabeth Estep. I received the bulk of my information from the book ESTEP-Thomas, Sr. (c.1709-1772) of Federick county, Maryland and His Descendants. This was printed several years ago from records compiled by Margaret E. Vidal, Mary Millichampe, Linnaria Wheland and Martin F. Hanson. Other pieces of information on the Estep and related families come from either research done by others for World Family tree, part of Family Tree Maker, and from information supplied to me through work on the Speer family. Margaret E. Vidal lives in Gainsville, Florida, or did. If you are interested in contacting them, work has been done by the Estep Family Association and you might can find them through that organization. I hope this works. Charles Smith This was a second source for this information. I have no name on this one it was sent by e-mail. My Data comes from the book "ESTEP, Thomas Sr. (c1709-c.1772) of Frederick County, Maryland and His Descendants" I have Elizabeth Estep, d/o Shadrach Estep and Ruth (unknown) of Ashe Co. NC and was the fourth child in the Will of Shadrach Estep. My data states that This line has not been searched. there are several entries reguarding Richard Isaac Sr., the husband to Elizabeth, and dealings with her father Shad. I do have references to land deals I can take you back but do not have much data for descendants. Dr Hanson researched Shadrach and I will provide you with data he researhed. I just received this book and it is Cataloged in The US Library of Congress, Call number CS71.E77 1994 I have not read most of this book. There is over 750 pages and loaded with stories and pictures. I will be copying what the book has on Elizabeth Estep. >From pages 136 and 137 S4 ELIZABETH ESTEP (3), daughter of Shadrach Estep & Ruth____ of Ashe Co. NC. She was the forth named child in Shad's will. This line has not been searched. Based upon the deed information below, it seems probable that Richard Isaacs who was involved with Shad's land deals, and the Richard Isaacs who entered 90 acres on a branch of Cove Creek, is the Richard, Senior, the husband of Elizabeth Estep. It also seems probable they were married by or before 1790. Richard SR may have been older than Elizabeth, she probably being his second wife. Richard Isaacs Jr. may be the s/o Richard Sr and Elizabeth. [ALL OF THIS IS SPECULATION.) Greg, their note not mine. Too, Greg, I might add that there could be a possibility that Elizabeth might be the spouse of David Isaacs instead of Richard. David seemed to disappear and other than some mention of him in some land transactions we know nothing more of him. Anyway, if you have any documentation I would sure appreciate it if you would share it with me. Janice Janice Pilkington <janice@w-link.net> |
