GROZIER--Where was the first Grozier in our line from?? William Grozier's marriage record states that he came from Great Britain. Several places are possibilities of his birth. Scotland, England, and Sulfolk, Boston, MA are three. One is Cherry Burton Parish, Yorkshire, England. A Johannis (John) Grozer et Janae had a son William born in parish records at the same time as his birth. Grozier's were also at Weeden Beck, England. In Sulfolk, Boston, MA was a Bastian (Bastiaen) Gazeau (Gosier). He is both listed as French and a Huguenot. He had a son William born Aug. 19, 1687. Scotland is also a place that had Grozier's at that time. It would be hard to connect him without a Boston record giving a clue. My guess would be the Yorkshire, England location. He was in his early 30's when he married and most likely arrived in Boston a year or two before marrying which would be just before 1720. Since his descendants were mariners it is very likely that he also was a mariner. Life at sea was very hard and most retired young. When he died in Boston, MA at age 45, he had 4 children and had been married 14 years. The early Groziers were seafaring; Captains and crew members of transport ships and fishing vessels. My Grandfather, Daniel Grozier went to sea as a Cabin boy at the age of eight. He retired from the sea when he was in his early thirties. HOPKINS-- This line of the tree goes back to Stephen Hopkins of the Ship Mayflower. SCHUTT-- They originated in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and came to America in 1874. SCHROTH--This family was from Baden, Germany and came to America by 1855. PEAL--Came to America in 1835 to New Jersey. The ancestor of our line came to Cincinnati about 1854. They were from Engter by Osnabrick, Hanover, Germany.
