I am researching my father's family which ultimately settled in Madison County, Ohio. My g-grandparents were John L. and Mary Healy(Haley)Higgins. According to John's death certificate his parents were Richard and Ellen Higgins of County Cork, Ireland.
The baptismal record for the youngest child of John and Mary, Thomas, stated that John was from Ballycottin, County Cork, Ireland and Mary from Ballyvourney, County Cork, Ireland.
I contacted the Mallow Heritage Center in County Cork and they provided the marriage details for the only Richard Higgins and Ellen married in County Cork. It also listed seven children born to this couple and the location of the births which was Ballymacotter. The 6th child born was John. The other children were William, Mary, Martin, Michael, Richard and Edward. John and Mary were married at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church in Wilmington, Delaware. It appears that Mary Higgins married Patrick Haley and lived for the most part in Delaware Co., PA. Edward and Martin lived in Chester Co., PA in the 1880 census; Edward being in Coatesville and Martin in Valley. William appears in the 1870 census in Coatesville, Chester Co., PA.
Edward married Catharine(Kate) Connor and Martin married Ellen Twomey. William married Anna Sheehan and Richard married Anna Lawless. Michael did not marry and he died on 27 August 1867 of Typhoid Fever. At the time of his death he was living with his sister and brother-in-law, Patrick and Mary Higgins Haley. If this information looks at all familiar to anyone, I would love to hear from you.
