I am looking for any information regarding the Olson(originally Olsson in Sweden) family, two of whom reportedly left Goteborg, Sweden, August 1895. They entered the US through Ellis Island.Their original surname was Olsson, but was changed to Olson during immigration. The elder sister'sname was Alma Olivia. The younger sister's, my grandmother, name was Anna Ellida. Anna was 12, and Alma was 22 at the time of immigration. They were from the Island of Gotland and the parish of Väte.The two sisters were sponsored by elder siblings, Hilda Henrietta, Ingeborg Amanda and Olof. They settled in the Chicago area.Anna's first job was at Western Electric.Hilda was supposed to be an opera singer around the Chicago area, perhaps in Pullman.Ole was supposed to have farmed in Alabama. Ole wife's name was Betsy, who hated the warmer climates and stayed around Chicago, with her sisters-in-law.Betsy was also a mid-wife.Anna's date of birth was Oct. 11, 1882, her date of death was Sept.7, 1971.There was a social security number listed on her death certificate, but social security indexes do not show her.Alma Olson (my great-aunt) married a John Olson, and they had two sons, John and Henry.Anna Olson married Nels Christian Sorensen August 9, 1909 in Chicago. Anna Olson Sorensen and Nels Christian Sorensen had five children, Marion, Violet, Earl, Pearl and Estelle.Marion died in 1985, and Violet died in 1930..one month after her father. Nels Christian Sorensen was the son of Jens Peter Sorensen and Maren Hove Andersen.Jens was born in Nors Parish, Hillerslev Herred, Thisted, Denmark on Sept. 4, 1849.His parents were Soren Pettersen and Maren Jensen.Maren Hove Andersen was born in Hundborg Parish, Hundborg Herred, Thisted, Denmark, on Oct. 18, 1852.Maren Hove Andersen's parents were Anderson Hove Nielsen and Ane Christerdotter Bredal.Children born to Jens and Maren (married Nov. 17, 1874 in Denmark) were Niels (died 1909-US, leaving a widow, Christina and three, possibly four children), Nels, (my grandfather, died 1930, U.S., left widow Anna and five children), Waldimir (Walter), Peter (Ernest Peter?) Soren (Sam), Martha, Mary, Anna and Fred. One of the daughters and Fred were born in Chicago...possibly one other child was born and died in Chicago as well. Most of Jens and Maren's children remained in the Chicago, northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin areas. Jen's died in 1915 in Pikesville, Wisc.Maren died in 1937 at the home of her daughter, Martha Sorensen Jensen (?) Spangaard, Antioch, Illinois. One of the children, Peter (Pete) left Chicago after selling his partnership in an auto repair business to move to the El Paso, Tx. area to become a sheriff or deputy-sheriff in the 1920's. The maternal side of my family tree includes the surnames of Helbling(Rochus), Hoffman (Veronica), Geiger (Margaretha),Naas, Walther, Dentzel, Kunz (Rosa), Fried, Sertel, Volmar, Weisgerber, Becker, Riedinger, Frank, Siegel, and Gerber. These persons were orginally from the Alsace-Lorraine Germany, and later from the Odessa/Black Sea Areas of Russia. My mother is Anna Mary Helbling Sorensen (DOB April 17,1919). She is the daughter of Rochus (also known as Roy) Helbling and Veronica Hoffman (daughter of Gabriel Hoffman and Margaretha Geiger). My husband is Thomas Freund Antonson. We are looking for Freund, Schmitt (various spellings), Schumacher, Antonson and Landerholm for this branch. They primarily resided in the northern Illinois and Chicago areas. The Antonsons and Landerholms were from Sweden. The Freunds, Schmitts and Schumachers were from Germany, although at this point, we are unsure as to what specific area. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. updated Jan. 22,2000
