Notes for Robert Spurdens: Robert Spurdens appears as Postmaster on William's Wedding Certificate and Weaver on Thomas's. This puzzled me for a while. However the same Robert appears on William's Baptism entry in Diss Parish Register in February 1817 as Postman and on Harriets in 1818 as Weaver so presumably he did both! He appears as witness to a marriage in Diss in 1824.
He is shown to be still alive and a postman in the Diss Trade Directory for 1844. There is a Death in the Index for a Robert Spurdens in Depwade in the September Quarter of 1845 which I suspect is him. He's dead by the 1851 Census.
At least 3 of his sons - Robert, Thomas and William moved to London in the 1820's. Their marriages are on the Registers of St. Pancras Old Church in 1828, 1839 and 1840 respectively. Thomas seems to have remained in St. Pancras with his wife Mary, but William and Sarah moved to Broadwall, Surrey, in Southwark. I've not yet discovered what happened to Robert. No Spurdans' Baptisms appear on the St. Pancras Registers.
Another Robert Spurdans married Rhoda Doggett in 1799 - I have their Wills.
This Robert married Mary Page in 1800. Thomas and Susans' entries (1811 and 1812) show Elizabeth Page as their mother but William and Harriets' (1816 qnd 1817) show Mary again. I suspect that the Baptism register is wrong and should read Mary Page (rather than Elizabeth) as mother of Thomas and Susan. Alternatively another Robert Spurdans married Elizabeth Page and they are the parents.
