Matthew Archer (son of John Archer and Maria) was born June 1716 in Ivinghoe, Bucks?, and died December 15, 1793 in Chesham, Bucks. He married Elizabeth Russell on December 05, 1748 in St. Mary's, Chesham, Bucks.
Notes for Matthew Archer: Described as "an extremely literate shoemaker". His obituary indicates that he was "universally lamented".
Inscription on his picture (dated July, 1810) reads that he "served the office of Parish Clerk & Sexton of Chesham, Bucks for upwards of 30 years with the utmost punctuality & decorum". The same wording is used for his epitaph.
Gravestone still visible at St. Mary's Churchyard, Chesham, thanks to the tireless efforts of his great-great-great-great grandson, Robert Noel Archer.
The marraige registration indicates that at the time of the marriage, both were residents of Chesham and the marriage was performed by banns.
