MY FAMILY

I was born in Asunción, capital of Paraguay on December 15,1922 and live in Israel from November 1949.
I am a retired Physician who worked during fifty years in tne
same Medical Institution, a branch of the Labor Federation of Israel.
My Father LEON ARDITI was born in Salonica, Greece, son of Elias Arditi and Matilde Arditi. At the age of 15, after the death of his parents my Father emigrated to Egypt. At the age of 30, after living fifteen years in Cairo he decided to emigrate to Paraguay. In Egypt he learned in a Talmud Torah school and afterwards in a school to be an accountant. He spoke. read and write Hebrew, Ladino, French and Arabic fluently.
A nephew of my father also named Leon Arditi remained in Salonica. In the second world war this nephew was deported to Auschwitz as thousands of the Jewish community of Salonica and perished in Aushwitz. I saw his name in the list of 13.000 of people from the same city who perished in the Holocaust with his wife Daisy his only son Samuel, and his mother Regina.
My mother, Victoria Palombo, was born in a little town near Smirna (Izmir) called Pergamo (Bergama). Her Father was Hayim Palombo and her mother Sara Corquidi. At the age of 7 when her mother died, her father send her and her sister Matilde to Cairo to the eldest sister, Rachel, to be raised, both, there.
At the age of 21 in her way to Paraguay to be married with my father, came to Palestine to be with her cousins who lived in that country. She made acquaintance with: Dr. Nisim Corquidi, a Physician who made his studies in France, and Fortunee Eliashiv Nisim's sister, Bea Barzel (nee Corquidi) and a young man with the family name Bar Adon who's mother was from the Corquidi family.
After six months she went to Paraguay and married my father. They had five children: Eliahu (the author of this page),who maried in 1947 with Rosa Braunfeld in Asuncion (Paraguay). Sara who married in Buenos Aires (Argentina) with Alberto Musachi in 1945. Nessim who married Sara Karlik in Asuncion and live now (February 2007) in Santiago (Chile). Samuel who married Shulamith Cohenca and live in Asuncion (Paraguay) (February 2007), and Jaime (Hayim) named after my maternal grandfather, who married Irene Steinman, later divorced from her, and live alone up until now in Asuncion (Paraguay) February 2007. He has three children all ot them living in Israel: Eduardo. Alberto and Patricia.
In 1971 my mother visited Israel for six months, where she made acquaintance for the first time in her life, with two half sisters of her: Linda Palombo Mosseri and Susan Palombo who came to Israel a couple of years before, during the war with Egypt in 1956.They were sisters from the same father and from the wife my grandfather married for the second time, Sara Jaffe In this year she met Dr. Nahum Corquidi, Bea Barzel and her brother Moreno Corquidi who came from Mexico for a visit just in this year.
I married to Shoshana Braunfeld, born in Anvers in 1929, that came to Paraguay in 1941, after fleeing from her country during the occupation of the German nazis. We married on December 13, 1947. Our eldest son Joel was born in August 28 1949 and in September 1949 we emigrated to Israel where we arrived in November 23, 1949. On December 14, 1949 was born our second son Iehudah. Joel is a Computer Engeneer and Iehudah is a Gynecologist.
After three weeks of adaptation in the Sharon Hospital in Petach Tikvah, where I learned about the system of providing health services in the country, I was sent to the Negev to be Family Physician in four kibutzim: Gvulot, Tzeelim, Nir Itzhak and Urim. My work began on December 1949. On March 1950, I changed my center of my activities, and began to live in the Kibutz Urim, because the new settlements planned to absorb new inmigrants from Yemen, Irak, Kurdistan. The new settlements were: Peduim, Maslul, Patish and Ranen.
