The Arde surname was assigned to Albert Ardayi when he immigrated from Hungary at the age of seventeen. Although Albert could speak seven languages, English was not one of them; hence, the Americanized Spelling, ARDE was assigned by an immigrations officer.
I would like to trace the Ardayi family heritage in Hungary. I have not had much success, partially, because I am not so sure that the surname is spelled correctly. Some of the earlier members of the family used the surname ARDAY as well as ARDAYI.

Albert was born in Ung Megye Unvar, Hungary on August 26, 1887. Ung Megye Unvar was located in the territory known as the forest of Transylvania near the Carpathian Mountains. His father was a Boot Maker. Albert's wife, Elizabeth, whom he met and married in America was born July 16, 1896 with the surname "SANDOR". She was born on the other side of the Carpathian Mountains, in Romania. Her father, Istvan (Stephen) was a Lumberjack by trade.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am also willing to share information that I have archived at this time. In reference to this family, you may also find information on the World Family Tree CD, Volume 10.
