Sigurd Toresson på Bjarkøy (b. Abt. 1005, d. date unknown)
Notes for Sigurd Toresson på Bjarkøy:
Sigurd Toresson was born about 1005 in Bjarkøy, Tromsø, Norway. As far as we know, Tore Hund had only one son, namely Sigurd Toresson. He is not mentioned much in history, so it must be assumed that he led a secluded life. One can certainly assume that after King Olaf was canonized, Sigurd would have been shunned as he was the son of a saint killer. While neither Tore Hund's mother nor his wife are known, we do know that his son, Sigurd, was married to a woman from Iceland who was named Aud Snoresdatter, the daughter of Snorre Gode. Her father one of the Icelandic Godord, a position which can be compared with a Herrodshøvding (chieftainship over a geographical area). He had the reputation of being the wisest man in Iceland and gifted with second sight. He may have been confused with Njål Lovsigemand, who had the wondrous ability to see and fortell the future. There was a Hålogalender named Sigurd for Sigurd Toresson's time who made trips to Iceland and several other places. Although this very likely refers to Sigurd Toresson, it is not expressly stated. Sigurd and Aud had a daughter named Ranveig who married Jon Arnesson, a member of the Arnmødling family, one of the most powerful families in Norway at that time. The Bjarkøy and Arnmødling families had also been connected by marriage several times previously.
Children of Sigurd Toresson på Bjarkøy and Aud Snorresdatter are:
