Notes for Johannes Jr. Kranester: While he obviously belongs to the Autrian Exulanten families of Kranister, Kronister that are found in many villages of Mittelfranken, his birthplace is as yet unknown. The Franconian Kronesters were Austrian refugees of the 1650s who came from various villages in Lower Austria - many of them from the vicinity of Steinakirchen am Forst settling in the Franconian localities of Fiittersee, Taschendorf, Pretzdorf, Baudenbach, Farrenbach, Hutschdorf, Schweinsdorf and elsewhere. The family were evidently part of the massive migration of Austrian Lutherans to Germany at the close of the Thirty Years War. In America the name Cronister, Chronister is very uncommon, only one colonia emigrant by that name arrived here and most of the thousands of Chronisters in the United States today are his descendants.
