| The Arfsten Family traces it's roots to the island Fohr which is one of the North Frisian Islands off the coast of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In my research, I have found 8 separate Arfsten families in the United States. To date, I have found no connection between these families. Perhaps if we traced back far enough we would connect several of them. But, names on Fohr were given by the patronymic system until 1780. Thus, Arfsten just means son of Arfst. The different Arfsts who lived on this island around 1780 became the first ones with the family name Arfsten. That means there is no common ancestor of the Arfsten's. The reports attached to this site end with the 3rd generation. If you would like further generations of descendants, please contact Dr. Arfsten who has a book listing 7 generations of descendants. |
