Michele Shockley's commentary contains the following:
"John Kemp is reported to be of Scotch-Irish descent. He was a
Democrat. Elizabeth Brown Kemp is reported to be of English descent.
I have a reference to her brother, a Thomas Brown, who lived in Ross
County, Ohio. John Kemp had two brothers, William Kemp & Samuel Kemp
who served in the Revolutionary War. At this time I have not yet
documented this fact."

Michele Shockley's records contain the following:
"John & Elizabeth's marriage is recorded in the book; "Somerset
County, Maryland Marriage Records 1796-1871" by Roy C. Pollitt, page
82. Researched by Rosalee Thomas. I also have a copy of a census
record from Maryland, Somerset County Rewastice 1810 pg 279 that lists
Betsey Kemp, with 3 free white males under 10; 1 free white female age
26-25 and 7 all others- At this time there is some speculation that
John B Nelson Kemp, William and Samuels older brother, may have been a
half brother. Marriage dates for John & Besty do not jive with John
Nelson B' birthdate. While it is true that John Nelson B's birthdate
has been handed down as heresy, there is nothing to disprove it
either. Rosalee believes that she has a line on a possible 1st
marriage for John Kemp."
