Some of the horses they owned are what later became the foundation stock for the Amer ican Quarter horse. Cyrus and his family moved from Iowa to Minko, OK where he engaged in th e mercantile business. He is buried there.:

!RESEARCH: BOOK: " Roster Iowa Soldiers-War of Rebellion, Vol 2" Cyrus Armstrong, age 22, re sidence Ottumwa, nativity Indiana, Enlisted Oct 15, 1861. Mustered Nov 1, 1861. Mustered ou t Nov 20, 1864, Chattanooga, TN, expiration of term of service. The 1860 fed. cen showed Cyrus M. Armstrong age 26 Living in Montgomery Co. Iowa with his wife Julia age 24 and one son Thadius age 2. It also shows that Cyrus was born in Ohio. At the time of the census, Cyrus listed real estate holdings worth $3300. and personal property valued at $600. He owned the local Livery Stable. No doubt this is where some of the Armstrong sons learned to care for and race their blooded horses. Some of the horses they owned are what latter became the foundation stock for the American Quarter horse.
Cyrus and his family moved from Iowa to Minco Okla. where he engaged in the mercantile business. He is Buried there. His wife Julia is buried in the Sayre Doxie cem. near the family homestead in Beckham co. Okla.[Armstrong then and now 2.FTW]
