Updated July 17, 2012

About Our Family Research

Elijah Armstrong Sr. of North Carolina was born September 1793 in Iredell Co. area. Elijah married Margaret "Peggy" Higgins, daughter of John and Mary Higgins of Fauguier Co., Virginia, in Wilson Co., Tennessee. Elijah Armstrong Jr. son of Elijah and Peggy, was born in 1835 in Daviess Co., Missouri and was married to Charity Womack. Elijah and Charity had 4 children, John Wesley, William A., Margaret and Nancy. Elijah Jr. was in the Texas Rangers probably as a scout, he enlisted Oct. 1861 in Jack Co., Texas. He is suppose to have been half Cherokee Indian, his brother Barton W. was listed on a Cherokee application that stated that his father Elijah Armstrong Sr. was Cherokee Indian from North Carolina. Margaret, Elijah's daughter married Thomas C. McDaniel and Elijah's other daughter, Nancy married Joseph Armes.I am looking for any decendants of this family.

  • Elijah Armstrong (41 KB)
This a photo that was found in my grandfather's box of photos, which we think is probably Elijah Jr.. Elijah Jr.'s father, Elijah, was Cherokee Indian according to Barton W. Armstrong's application for enrollment.
  • William A. Armstrong (26 KB)
This is "Uncle Billy" William A. Armstrong born Oct.20, 1862 in Wise Co., Texas and died in 1880. William was a son of Elijah Armstrong Jr. and Charity Womack.
  • Unknown Woman (19 KB)
This photo was found in my grandfathers thing's after he passed away(Carl Wesley Armstrong). Could this be Charity C. Womack, his grandmother? Charity was born in 1837.
  • Unknown Man and Woman (13 KB)
This photo was also found in my grandfathers thing's. Could this be his father, John Wesley Armstrong born in 1860? John was brother to Billy, pictured above. If so this is probably his first wife or one of his sister's. It is not Mary Delilah Black, his 2nd wife.
