Descendants of Jesse Taylor

Generation No. 2

2. ELIZABETH2 TAYLOR (JESSE1) was born 1839 in Greenup Co. Ky.15, and died 1890 in Muskegon, Michigan16. She married WILLIAM HENRY ERNST BRUNS 1860 in Catlettsburg, Boyd Co. KY17, son of FREDERICK BRUNS and ANNA RUDOLPH.

More About ELIZABETH TAYLOR:
Fact 1: 1860, Census indicates that she was born in 1839
Fact 2: in Greenup Co. Ky.

Notes for WILLIAM HENRY ERNST BRUNS:
Family history reports that the Bruns were of the Teuton Race and came
from Prussia.
I am told by a professor of Frankfort University in Germany; that the Bruns were only found in the North West region of Germany, most particularly in Oldenburg, Germany. Oldenburg was apparently Danish from 1667-1773.
This fact will help in pinpointing dates for our Capt. Bruns, who is said
to have been a sea captain, in what was then Denmark.

The northwest region[except Oldenburg] belonged
to Prussia from 1793 to the end of the last century.

Teutoneen is an older name for Germans used in the middle ages. It was used to mean, Germans without any culture and lifestyle.

The capitol of Prussia was Hannover. The professor feels that our Bruns come from Oldenburg and alot of them were sailors or sea captains, like our "original " Bruns was. He also says that
Bruns is a very common name there, and we need some more specific
information before we can track the rest of the German heritage there.
The family information says that the family was from Schaumberg-Lippe
area in Germany. This is further verified by information provided by
the Catlettsburg, Boyd Co. Genealogical Society; though the spelling
of the place of origin is mispelled. I figured out the correct name of the
town, by consulting with online German contacts from Germany, including
the Professor, who was most helpful with providing historical facts
about Germany etc.

Family information says that William and his brother
Frederick came to Pa. from Germany on a ship in 1849. Further search
will be to search the Germans to America Books at the libraries which
will hopefully tell us more and verify dates and locations of when our
Bruns came to America.

Fact 11: which I have learned should be Schaumburg-
Fact 12: Lippe.21

Marriage Notes for ELIZABETH TAYLOR and WILLIAM BRUNS:
Family story from the 1948 family tree by Cile Remsberg[ Clara Lucille Derr,
daughter of Mary Elizabeth Bruns who married John Remsberg], indicates
that family history says that he came to Ky, gained hand in marriage of
Elizabeth Taylor by swiping her trunk. She had to marry him to get her belongings.

I know that at that time, the brides posted what was known as marriage
bonds to assure that the wedding would take place. I believe that this
story is about the promises of a future marriage.

The Boyd Co. Historical Society says that their marriage is the first one,
in their first Boyd Co. marriage book. It says" William Bruns married Elizabeth Taylor May 31, 1860. She was twenty one, born in Greenup Co. Ky. Her
father was from Wythe Co. Va. and her mother from Pike Co. Ky. William
and both parents were born in Germany. William Bruns and Lewis Mutter
signed the marriage bond on May 28, 1860. Elizabeth brought a note of
consent from Jane Taylor. "

At this time, I am sure that Lewis Mutter was either the brother or
father of Jane Mutter Taylor- Elizabeth's mother. Family records
show that Elizabeth's mother was Jane Mutters.

We find Elizabeth's family including her father Jesse Taylor in the
1850 Wayne Co. Census sent to us by the E. Ky Genealogical Society.
In the 1860 Census for Boyd Co, Ky; we do not find the father Jesse Taylor.
That means that another male adult had to sign for Elizabeth to get
married. That is why we find Lewis Mutter signing instead of her own
father. Since Jesse was not in the 1860 Census with the family, it is
assumed that he had died by then.

Notes for CLARA ANNA JENNY BRUNS:
Future research:
contact the Vital Records for the state as listed in an address sheet provided
by the Cemetary which I did contact for further information. Evidently they
had no information and could only send verification that there is a plot
there with the name Clara Bruns and the date, we think she died.
Purpose: find out if they have death certificate for her, to verify her parentage.
Also verify the marriage of C. Bruns and E. Deisselhorst 31 May 1881,
to see if it is our Clara. This took place in Bexar Co. Book G. Vol 34 No.2
