c1639: From St. botolph, Addgate, England to Hartford with widowed mother and stepfather. 1648: On of the first settlers of East Hampton, NY. Cooper, Freeman. 1651, 17 Nov: East Hampton Records: "It is ordered that William Edwards, William Foithean, Richard Brooks, William Simons, Samuel Parsons shall gett Sixe loads of thach within these fourteene Dayes and if any shall neglect to Doe his share he shall be made to pay ten shillings." 1651/2, 2 Feb: East Hampton records re: wife: "It is ordered that Goody Edwards shal pay 3L or have her tonge in a cleft stick for the Comtempt of a warrant in sainge she would not come, but if they had bin Govenor or Magistrate then she would come as Desiringe the warrant that she may burne it." 1652, 4 May: East Hampton: "It is ordered that Ralph Dalton, Thomas Osborne, senior, William Edwards should Quietly enjoy their land that they now possess without any more Questioninge." 1653, 13 Jun: William Edwards brought an action for slander against Benjamin Price, alleging that Goody Price had called his wife a "lose lieinge woman." The record of the case is of interest chiefly because the statement is made incidentally that the Edwards family had been at Lynn before going to East Hampton. 1665, 21 Aug: William Edwards bought of Nathaniel Foster and Sarah, his wife, a house and land in East Hampton. This property he at once gave to his son John Edwards. 1669, 18 Dec: He gave to his daughter Sarah Edwards, a house lot between John Edwards and Samuel Parsons' land, together with other parcels; he also gave to Nathaniel Demmony, who is to marry his daughter Sarah, a house lot. 1672, 17 Jul: He brought an action for debt against Philip Alcock, at which time his occupation is given as Cooper. 1673, 24 June: He hired an Indian named Issaack as a servant for a half year. 1674/5, 22 Mar: Thomas Dyamant, Sr., in behalf of Mr. James' company of whalemen, brought an action against William Edwards and his whale companies for a debt of thirty shillings and a gallon of rum. 1674, 7 May: He gave several lots of land to William Rundle of East Hampton and his wife Hannah (William Edwards' daughter). 1676: William Edwards gave to John Squire, as his daughter Ann Edwards' marriage portion, certain tracts of land. 1677, 8 Jul: He gave to his son Thomas Edwards various tracts of land in East Hampton. 1680/1, 1 Jan: Will written in Southampton, L.I., NY. 1685, 21 Oct: Will was proved at Southold; wife Anne was made executrix. It was witnessed by John and Sarah Laughton. In the will he mentioned his sons John and Thomas Edwards, William and Ephraim Edwards, sons of his son Thomas, Josiah Edwards, son of his son John, his daughters Elizabeth Baker and Ann Squire, and his grandchildren Richard, Thomas, Isaac, Benjamin, and Elizabeth Stratton, children of his daughter Elizabeth Baker.
