DUCKWALLSFROM OHIO, VIRGINIA AND WEST VIRGINAUpdated June 7, 2001
My Great Grandfather, Hezekiah Minor (Miner) was raised by Samuel Duckwall. How he reached Samuel Duckwall's home is still a mystery. That small opening into the Duckwall family has lead to my collection and research of volumes of genealogical information. My research begins with the Duckwalls from Germany who came to this country and settled primarily in Berkeley County, VA that is now West Virginia. A large segment of the Duckwalls moved to Ohio and settled in and around Highland County and in the Townships of Hamer, Hillsboro, New Market and Liberty County. The Duckwalls were prominent and very successful farmers and business folks, and many were equally prominent as doctors, attorneys and craftsmen. My research has moved into the 20th Century. There is a book, "The Duckwalls and Allied Families: a family history." The book covers the descendants of Rudolph Duckwall, as well as others. Rudolph's descendants lived and still live in Ohio, Virginia, west Virginia, Kentucky, Kansas, Oklahoma, Indiana, California, Oregon, Idaho and elsehere. I have not read the book. It is available in the Oklahoma City Library and the LDS Library in Salt Lake City. The Subject Class # is 929.273.D858 - so you may look it up in any library. Those interested in the Duckwalls are aware that the research task is endless and fascinating. I am sure there are others who have done much more work in this area than I, but my collection is not too shabby. Good researching.
