This ARNOLD Family descends from John Arnold, freeman Cambridge May 6, 1635; an original proprietor of Hartford; received 16 acres in the division of 1639/40 when a lot was given him on the south side of the road leading from George Steele's to the south meadow. Inv Dec 26, 1664. John Arnold early member 1st Church. Signed agreement to remove to Hadley but did not go. Name on Founder's Monument. Susannah, widow of John Arnold, orginal member 2nd Church - Feb 22, 1670, separated from 1st Church. "Lucius Barnes Barbour's Families of Early Hartford, Connecticut" p.20.

The direct link between Jonathan Arnold, American Revolutionary Soldier, removed to Wayne County, Pennsylvania is either through Jonathan or Joseph Arnold of Connecticut, both descendants of the John Arnold above. Further research is needed to determine the parentage of Jonathan Arnold.

The CALLEN Family descends from James CALLEN, born ca. 1746 probably in Scotland. He was first in Freehold, New Jersey where he and Bevanna Laird were probably married; they removed to Saratoga County, New York before 1790. A record of son Edward Callen b. 1766 gives his place of birth as Ireland--perhaps the family was from Northern Ireland. More research is needed to determine which scenario is correct.

The BIRT Family is originally from Uley, Gloucestershire, England. Daniel BIRT came to America, September 1867 with eldest son Samuel. His wife, Sarah Hill POPPLESTONE came with the younger children the following summer. After Daniel BIRT arrived, he changed the name to BURT.

This website is one way of our sharing the results of the many wonderful years of research Bob & I did together. This is an on-going project. Please feel free to contact us for further information on these families.
