Notes for George William Arthur: Was Baptized at St Johns Church, Eager St. Witnesses were James Healy and Maria Kernan Father was listed as Thomas Arthur ex loco Hibernia and mother Sara J. Dorman ex loco Baltimore. Patrick Ryan presiding. I have a feeling that James Healy was Sara Dorman's brother and that Mary Kernan was her neighbor.( Recorded from original Church Records on 12-15-1978)
He had a grocery store at Cold Spring Lane near Alonzo's in partnership with Robert. In some City Directories he is listed as one of the "Arthur Brothers", who were in the grocery business. All of the children were listed as members at various times. He also worked with Bernie Lee, the warden at the State Penitentiary and for the Highway Department, Baltimore City. He was considering a run for the City Council when he died suddenly. He had a heart attack while working near Clifton Park. He would have been 38 years old. Friends took him to his home where he died. His mother was listed on the death certificate as Sarah J. Dormany. Obituary in Baltimore Sun May 15, 1911 states that "he was a surveyor with the Electrical Commission and that he was at work on Harford Rd near the Holy Cross cemetery with his companions when he complained of being sick. He was taken by carriage to his home where he died". The1911 Baltimore City Directory shows " Geo W Arthur, Clk 907 E chase St."
Death Certificate from City of Baltimore lists death from heart disease on May 13, 1911. His occupation was electrical engineer. Father was Thomas Arthur from Ireland and mother was Sarah J. Dormany who was born in Maryland.
