My Father and Mother frequently traveled to Chicago to visit Catherine who had entered the convent. Catherine sent them a picture of the whole family except for Margaret in which the names of the six daughters were listed. Catherine sent another picture of her father getting out of an auto in which she noted that "Papa died from cancer from a fall down stairs". Two of the daughters married. Mary married Gerald James and Sarah married Albert Louis Scherf. By contacting the Missouri Historical Society I was able to locate the family in St. Louis as early as 1909. John Thomas became connected with the Chamber of Commerce in St. Louis and later became the Treasurer of W.L. Green, Commission Co listed with the Chamber of Commerce(1914). Later he was the Treasurer of the Marshall Hall-Waggoner Grain Co, Chamber of Commerce (1916-1921). In 1923 they moved to 4919 Fountain Ave in St. Louis where they remained until the last record in 1952. John Thomas was listed in 1951 but only Josephine Arthur in 1952. I have since found out that he died in 1948 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery on June 2, 1948. The St. Louis Directories also show listings for Elizabeth, Isabelle and Margaret Arthur through the years at the Fountain Ave. address.
Baltimore Sun clipping dated July 7, 1898 shows his marriage to Jo Brown. Says he was formerly associated with the export department of E.B. White Grain company and is now associated with John L. Rodgers and Co of this city.
He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in St Louis (6/2/1948). Cem Sec 45, Lot 0001, Age 83, M.
