Samual Charles Artus (son of Samuel Artus and Catherine Hooper) was born 1838 in Cheltm, Gloucestershire, England¹⁷, and died 1902. He married Harriet A. Barnes on 1858.

I received this email from Paul Artus - New Zealand on 10-11-1999 with his comments about how he felt we were related:

hi, nice to hear from another Artus.
There is a good chance that we are related - but a long way back.
I have the details of William Charles' family.
His father was Samuel Charles Artus (1840 - 1902)
His grandfather Samuel Artus (b1816) a plumber in Rod borough.
His great grandfather another Samuel b 1784
and his great great grandfather Edward Artus - though I'm not 100% sure on
this one.
Our common ancestor, if there is one, would be the father of Edward.
One of his other sons (the brother of your Edward) was William Artus
(1768-1848), my gt gt gt gt grandfather.
This is the area which is a bit hazy at the moment. We have another relative
in England, also researching the family tree. He is concentrating on this
early area. He believes that the common ancestor was John Artois who married
Elizabeth Mons in Gloucester in 1747.
They had a son Thomas in 1760, whose name appears later as Thomas Artis -
the name changes often back then.
Anyway, I'll send this for your info now and be in touch.
