Edward Artus (b. 1760, d. date unknown)

Edward Artus (son of Artus) was born 1760, and died date unknown. He married Sarah on 1783⁴.

Notes for Edward Artus:
Frances Cooke states that according to the Cheltenham Bishops transcripts: Edward Artus was a pauper when his children Sarah and Mary were born.

Hi Leon,

I've had a look at my very scrappy notes on the Cheltenham Artus's. In
answer to your points these show;
Yes, it is the same Edward and Sara. I have them as married in 1783. In the
Cheltenham Bishops transcripts Edward was shown as a pauper when his
children Sarah and Mary were born. Sarah was born in 1787 not 1781 as my web
page shows (if only I could type accurately!). In fact I have Sarah
christened on 25 March 1787.

Sarah's marriage to John Harris was on 2 November 1808.

The asterisks on my web page mean that in the documents I saw only the
father (Edward) was named. Therefore I cannot be sure that this was Edward
and Sara, but judging by dates this seems likely. The precise dates I have
for the christenings are; Edward 28 October 1781, Edward 28 November 1793
and Elizabeth 31 August 1777.

The Samuel Artus we all have a born 1816. I have a record of his marriage to
Catherine Hooper on 21 August 1836. I have a few different dates for his
children. Samuel Charles I have as June 1838 not 1840. In June 1840 I have
a daughter born, Catherine Jane. She died in June 1842. Craven I have born
on December 1848 rather than in 1849. I also have a record of a Robert born
in 1837.
I have a record of the family living in Townsend Street in Cheltenham in
1851.

Intriguingly I have a couple of other references to Edwards in Cheltenham
around the same time, but I haven't been able to link them in anywhere.
I have an Edward marrying Elizabeth Brown on 24/5/1791. Two children;
William on 6/1/1792 and Edward 28/11/1793. Mother died in childbirth on
28/11/1793.
I then have an Edward marrying Elizabeth Buckill on 29/5/1813 - witnessed by
Robert and Mary Ann Artus. From this Eliza Artus was born on 23/11/1815. She
married Roger Hunter on 24.2.1840, which was witnessed by a Samuel Artus.
Samuel appears to be son of Robert Artus who witnessed marriage in 1813.

Do you have any evidence that Edward (born 1760) was the brother of William
(born 1767)?
