       William Seavey was one of the original settlers to the general Portsmouth area. He was sent to the Pisquataqua settlement in 1631 by Capt. John Mason. He was actively associated with the Isles of Shoals, serving as constable in 1655. He was a selectman and otherwise of some consequence in the settlement (south end of Prescott Park). In 1660 he was William the Edler. He owned a large amount of land he left his wife and four children.

       Old Kittery and Her Families, page 34 Was a constable at the Isles of Shoals in 1656 and a selectman in Portsmouth in 1657, we was living in 1682. He had a land grant of 50 acres in what is now Rye, NH and bought land there in 1669 from Jane Drake, widow of Wm. Berry.
       Gen. Dict. of New England by Savage "William, of Portsmouth, one of the comp. by Mason sent over in 1631, was constable at Isle of Shoals 1655, much engage in the fishery and selectman 1657 and d. 1671. His prop. was large, by inv. of 13 Dec amount to L631,7,8 and in Apr. foll his wid. Eliz. had admin.

William Seavey, immigrant ancestor, was born about 1600 in England and was sent over by Caption John Mason to NH in 1631 or 1631 and settled in Portsmouth and Rye where he died in 1688. In 1660 he was called "the elder" and in 1657 was selectman of the town of Rye. He was constable at the Isle of Shoals in 1655. The name of his wife is unknown. He was engaged much of the time in fishing, and acquired a large amount of property, the inventory of which amounted to 631 pounds seven shillings eight pence. He left a widow Elizabeth. Children: 1) William Jr born 1640;2) John 1650 married 7/29/1686 Hannah Walker, widow of Joseph and daughter of John Philbrick 3) Thomas dided March 15, 1708 at Newcastle NH, was of the Isle of Shoals 1663 4) Stephen 5) Elizabeth, married _ Odiorne.
