She was born 1831 in Delaware, and died 1864 in Pennsylvania (?). He married (2) ANNA KEENAN November 20, 1865 in St. John's Catholic Church, Trenton, daughter of JOHN KEENAN and THERESA. Notes for W
ILLIAM HESTON VANSANT:
I found an entry for a William Vansant in the 1860 Falls Township, Bucks Co, Pa. census, page 150. Although his age is entered as "28" not "26" he appears on the same page as John, possibly his brother, whose age matches that of our John (25). His 29 year old wife's name was Jane who was born in Delaware. The children were Catherine (6), Oliver (4) and Rebecca (1). The older two attended school. Garret and Mary Ann are 9 pages later in same general area. Note: There is also a Benjamin Vansant, age 3, living in the John and Mary Carter household.

After the death of Jane, William married Anna Keenan in 1865 and had other children.

The 1880 census reveals that Wm H., a farmer (52) and Annie (35) were living with children: Elizabeth (14), Mary A (12), William (10), Annie (5), Eddie (3) and Emma (1). Apparently they were both literate. They were living in District 1, Lawrence Twshp, Mercer Co., NJ (pg 84B)

ANE CLARK HUTCHINSON:
Birth information taken from the 1860 census. Death info from Leon Vansant as well as her last name. Laurie Vansant has her last name as Clark so I added it to her full name.

Marriage Notes for W
ILLIAM VANSANT and JANE HUTCHINSON:
Information on this union originally from Leon VanSant.

From Laurie Vansant: From the Bucks Co. Intelligencer we have William's first marriage to Jane Clarke listed for 10/17/1852. It shows that she was from Rockdam, Delaware Co., but the census shows that she was from Delaware. A little confusion there I believe. The marriage was performed by Elder P.J. Hawk at the house of Jesse VanHart on Vanhart's Island, which I think was also called Biles Island. I suspected that Jefra was really Jesse and this looks like confirmation. I think Jaylet and John were living with the VanHart's in 1850.

Also, see notes under Wiliam H.

Notes for J
OHN VANSANT:
In 1850, John (15) and Jaylet (11) Vanzant are living with Jesse (age 23) and Mary (18) Vanhart and their one year old daughter Emma in Falls; however, there was another John (15) living in Lower Makefield as well. I suspect the former is the correct one.

In 1860, a John Vansant was working as a farm laborer with assets of $100. He was 25 and born in PA. (page 150). It seems likely that this is Weaver and Ann's son. His age is correct based on other information we have. He is living in Ebenezer Mull's household on Benjamin Brown's farm and shown as a Farm Laborer. We have evidence that Weaver worked on Benj. Brown's farm in 1846. It's in close proximity to the Ivins, Sterling, and Robbins farms. He appears to be unmarried and able to read. He is listed on the same page as William.

Cousin Laurie Vansant found John, Mary and Samuel in Jackson Township, Darke Co in 1867 (pg 227C) so for a short time after Sam was born they must have moved to Ohio.

In 1870, a John Vansant, age 34, was listed with his wife E. Mary (30) and son E. Samuel (3) and SARAH WHITE (age 57) and S. Elizabeth White, age 12 in the Falls Township, Bucks Co, PA census. (pg 243) He was a laborer and born in Bucks Co and owned $300 in personal property.

I am unable to locate John and Mary in 1880 but found a Samuel, age 17, as a printer, living with James Drury, Editor, in 2nd Ward, Bristol, Bucks, Pennsylvania.

Child of J
OHN VANSANT and MARY WHITE is:
  i.   SAMUEL E.3 VANSANT, b. 1867, Pennsylvania; d. Unknown.

4. JAYLETTE2 VANSANT (WEAVER1 VAN SANT) was born 1838 in Pennsylvania, and died February 05, 1882 in Trenton. He married (1) ELIZABETH IVINS March 22, 1863 in Trenton, daughter of ? IVINS and ELIZABETH. She was born December 16, 1839, and died May 08, 1868 in Trenton. He married (2) MARY A. Bet. 1869 - 1874. She was born Abt. 1845 in Ireland, and died Unknown.

Notes for J
AYLETTE VANSANT:
Writer has copy of Jaylette's death certificate dated 2/5/1882 at age 44. He had resided in Trenton for 15 years at the time of his death This concides with his first appearance in the City Directory in 1867 at 13 Clay St. The marriage records for Jaylette Vanzandt and "Libbie Ivins" are dated 3/22/1863 in Trenton (Where did they live between 1863 and 1867?-possibly outside of the city limits.) He was married to Mary at the time of his death.

ARY A.:
Earliest info taken from 1870 census, when Mary was keeping house.

Mary W. VanZandt was still living at 228 Elmer in 1882, the year Jaylette died. She is listed as "saloon".

Marriage Notes for J
AYLETTE VANSANT and MARY A.:
Information on children (except Mary) taken from 1880 census where they were living in the 2nd District of Chambersburg, pg 43, ED 112. Jaylette & Mary could both read and write. His age is listed as 42 and her's as 36. With them were boarders: James Webb (23, Ireland, pottery), his wife, Frances (20, NJ), and his mother, Catherine (70, Ireland).

Children of J
AYLETTE VANSANT and MARY A. are:
  i.   JOSEPHINE3 VANSANT, b. Abt. 1875; d. Unknown.
ii.   THOMAS VANSANT, b. Abt. 1876; d. Unknown.
  iii.   MARY VANSANT, b. February 1879, Trenton; d. March 05, 1879, Trenton.
  Notes for MARY VANSANT:
I have a death certificate for Mary Van Zant dated 3/5/1879 that states she was the daughter of Jaylette and "Mary", who was born in Ireland. This was 11 years after Elizabeth's death so Mary was his second wife. Young Mary was a 5 week old infant who died of lung congestion and her address is the same as our Jaylette. She is buried in St. John's Cemetery.

  iv.   ANNA F. VANSANT, b. December 1879; d. Unknown.

5. GARRET2 VANSANT (WEAVER1 VAN SANT) was born July 08, 1840 in Pennsylvania, and died February 04, 1918 in St. Francis Hospital, Trenton, NJ. He married MARY ANN MCLEESE Aft. 1860 in Pennsylvania, daughter of JOHN MCLEESE and JANE DUNCAN. She was born March 16, 1829 in Ireland, and died September 16, 1911 in Woodbourne, PA.

Notes for G
ARRET VANSANT:
In 1910, Garret lived with Isaac and his family at 423 Woodland but was not with them in 1915. He may have moved to Woodbourne by then. Mary Ann's address as listed in obit is 423 Woodland but she died in Woodbourne. According to Riverview, his cause of death was Lobar pneumonia (and I believe also stated he lived in Woodbourne, PA) . His obituary of February 5, 1918 states that he died the previous day (Monday) in St. Francis Hospital after an illness of two weeks of pneumonia. The funeral was to be held from the home of his son-in-law Thomas Umstat, 439 Woodland Street on Thursday with interment at Riverview. He was survived by Isaac, Amanda, and Anna Jane.

ARY ANN MCLEESE:
Place of birth taken from census records for daughter, Sarah. Date of birth was taken from her tombstone and date of death from her obituary, tombstone and Riverview records. Cause of death is listed as pneumonia. Apparently she was 11 years older than her husband. It appears to be correct as her obit states she died in Woodbourne, PA in her 83rd year.

1860 Falls census-I found a Jane McLeece (18), born in Ireland working as a servant (sister?). She was living with Jacob (and Rachel) Watson. (pg 121-122). A Joseph Watson, age 26 and a wheelwright, was living next door (see notes below for Nancy Love McLeese.)

In 1870, there is a listing for a Benjamin McLeese, born in PA, age 18 and working as a laborer for Robt. Wright. All around them are Eastburn and White (Sarah's middle name) families. His parents were both foreign born. Isaac Robbins is listed nearby as well.

1870-Falls-Nancy McLeese (page 16 of 58 in Ancestry), is a dressmaker, age 35, born in Ireland. Henry, age 12, W. Robt., age 8, Moriah age 6, all born in PA. with both parents born in Ireland. According to the message board, " Henry Wilson McLeese, born in Bucks Co., PA in 1857. His father was James McLeese who was killed in a horse/train accident in PA in Abt. 1867. James married Nancy Lee Love (b. in Ireland in 1834, d. on 11/8/1913 in IL) and had two sons, Henry Wilson and Robert W. before he died. His wife remarried to a Joseph Watson and they later moved to Henry Co., IL." (TedClark@prodigy.net). From information found after this was written (see below) these may have been cousins-i.e. James may have been a brother of John, Mary Ann's father or a brother to "our" Mary Ann.

1880- Robert McLees (age 18) is living with Joseph (49, a wheelwright) and Anna (Nancy?) Watson (42) who was a dressmaker. Village of Fallsington-page 26B. Robert was single and a harness maker.

My cousin Laurie VanSant found the following in April of 2003 on the ADD of the NARA site. The McLeise family (note the many variations on the spelling of the last name) arrived in the US on Nov. 11, 1850 aboard the Garrick who departed from Liverpool.

Marriage Notes for G
ARRET VANSANT and MARY MCLEESE:
Garret was living with Isaac in 1910. Where was Mary Ann? The records indicate that he was married for 51 years. She died in 1911 and she did not appear with any of the other children in 1910. However, her obit lists 423 Woodland as her address.

In 1860, both Garret and Mary Ann McLeese were enumerated in Falls, Bucks Co, Pa. (Edgewood post office) on page 159. They were both working on the farm of Samuel Eastburn's farm. He was 18, born in PA and a farm laborer and she was 22, born in Ireland and a servant. From later records, her age is obviously wrong low about 6-7 years. The property next door was owned by Isaac Robbins (age45). I also found a Jane McLeece (18), born in Ireland working as a servant (sister?).

In 1870 Garret and Mary Ann were living in Bristol Township, Bucks Co (pg 15) with their three children (Sallie, 5; Isaac, 3; and Anna Jane, 1). He was a day laborer and had assets worth $200.

During the 1880 census, Garret & Mary Ann were living in the 1st Ward of Chambersburg, pg 45, ed 111. With them were Isaac (13), Annie (11) & Amanda (5) as was a boarder, Dennis Rick (?) age 60. Where were Sarah (14) and Walter (5)? He may have died before age 5 as there is no later data on him. However, his birthdate (11/75) conflicts with Amanda's (2/76) as there are only three months between dates so he could have been born after 1880 or this could be misinformation from the VS Society.
