Notes for J
OHAN THEIS ESCH:
(Continuing notes from Wilhelm Esch): Mr. Schmidt, researcher, stated it is possible that the Esch family was Catholic, and that Johann Mathias Esch only married a Protestant woman, though no mention of this was made in his marriage. Eppenrod belongs to the Catholic Parish of Nentershausen, Kreis Westerburg, but unfortunately, the register of that place only began in 1681, presumably after Johann Mathis would have been born. A search of records of another village in the area, Egenroth, did not uncover the birth of Johann Mathias Esch. (Evangelisch Kirche Egenroth (Unterlahnkreis), Kirchenbuch, 1614-1875, FHL Film No. 1270387)

Marriage record reads "Johann Theis Esch born in Eppenroth (?) in the Principality of Schaumburg, legitimate son of Wilhelm Esch and Maria Juliana Zimmer(in), legitimate daughter of the late Hans Georg Zimmer of Blessenbach, married after three proclamations." The place mentioned doesn't exist, but there is an Eppenrod not too far from Blessenbach, which could have been part of Schaumburg at one time, so this is probably what was meant. The first marriage proclamation was made December 25, 1701. (Proclamations were read in weeks prior to a marriage in order that anyone who knew of an impediment to uniting them might come forward.) The actural marriage record was recorded January 10, 1702.

Research by Paul Schmidt, with above notes by Kathryn Bassett - December 1999.

Notes for M
ARIA JULIANA ZIMMER:
Maria Zimmer's christening was not found in the Blessenbach parish, but there were two marriages for a man named Hans Geor Zimmer, as well as children born to his first wife. The second wife, Anna Sibilla Weis(?), by whom Maria Julianna probably would have been born, was from a place which looked like "Munsen", but may have been Munster. The baptisms of that parish were searched from 1681-1707 for children born to Hans Geor Zimmer, but none were found.
