I, Jeremiah Ashley, of the County of Chowan and province of North Carolina Being sick of Body but of perfect mind & memory Therefore calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die ~ Do make and ordaine this my Last Will and Testement in manner and form following item ~ I give unto my Beloved Wife Susanah Ashley the use of all my moveable Estate During her natural Life & after her Death to be equal Devided between my heirs Lawfully Begotten of my Body.
Item I give unto my son John Ashley all my lands and plantation where on I now live excepting the use of my plantation to my wife Susanah Ashley During her natural life ~ and it is further my will and desire that if my son John Asley die without heirs lawfully begotten by his body that this the whole of my land be equal devided as the law directs. I likewise nominate and appoint my well beloved wife Susanah Ashley Exer.A
and ~ Exum (?) Simpson Exc ~ to this my last will and testiment and I do hereby utterely revoke and disavoul all other will or wills heretofore by me made in witness where of I have here unto let my had and seal this eight day of October 1801.
