Descendants of Henry and Jane Ashton. Henry was b 30 March 1826 in Lancashire (according to his naturalization documents), prob at Stalybridge. He migrated in April, 1863 landing in USA at New York City, then went to Lewiston, Maine where he worked in the woolen mills. His wife was Jane (Gaskill)b 18 March 1832. When they migrated they were accompanied by 3 of their children. Samuel, b. 20 March 1852, Elizabeth b 10 July 1854 at Oldham and William b 19 May 1855. I would like to learn Henry's place of birth, confirm birthdate, find out who his parents were, confirm Jane's surname, parents, place of birth. Also, Neil and his children are descended from George Soule through his daughter Mary who married John Peterson. Additionally, The Ashtons married into Ward, Whitten, and Chadbourne families.Sharon was born Cort, from the German "Curth", (also sp Kort) and from Manning, Norris and Dorman families. Particularly, we are seeking help with the Ward line. We believe Martin Ward was son of Nehemiah and Sarah (Wilson) Ward and that Nehemiah was son of Martin, b abt 1803 and Jane Grows, b abt 1806. It appears Nehemiah left his wife (or perhaps they were never married) and young son. He married a much younger Anna Adderton in 1860. He served in the 17th Maine Infantry during the Civil War and died in service in 1863 before leaving Maine. Martin's ancestry is a mystery. There were many Wards floating around Maine during the late 1700's and early 1800's. Help on any of these lines would be appreciated. |
