| REPUBLIC OF TEXAS Prior to 1 February 1846, FRANCES PAXTON and DAVID MITCHELL resided in the Republic of Texas. Both are my relatives according to a Republic of Texas Certificate handed down from my Mitchell side of the family. However, I have not put all of the puzzel together yet. Surnames being researched at the present are Mitchell, Gunter, Kelso, and Ashmead. States are MO,OK,TX,NM,AR. BONHAM,FANNIN COUNTY,TEXAS Was the home of my great-grandfather, James Washington Mitchell and wife, Nettie Ann Gunter. A trip to Fannin County in the summer of 2001 provided much information for me. James Washington and Nettie Ann Mitchell are at rest in the Leonard Cemetery with their burial sites on Road 6 , Lot 1. Many of our Mitchell relatives lived there and possibly still do. NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE John Mitchell, 60 yrs., b.1839, listed as "Indian", and John Mitchell, 26 years, b.1873, who also is listed as "Indian" are both on the Garvin County, Indian Territory, 1900 Chickasaw Nation Census.
