Mareya Thangamma was born in Irupalai, Sri Lanka, and died 20 Nov 1911 in Usan.She married Vinnayagar Varithamby Asirwatham in Usan, son of Vinnasithamby and Unnamed.
Notes for Mareya Thangamma:Mareya ails from Irupalai ( ?daughter of Periyathamby). She is most likely Muttiah Knights relative, there is no record of her in the Knight family tree.The knights , Sattambiar( teacher ) Kanagaratnam, Nallanathan, a few of their relatives and their Hindu cousins were known to be the main family in Irupalai ( this family which includes the Hensmans etc is known to/ to have owned the Rasavin Thoddam land in Nallur) . She got her two sons married to Muttiah Knight's daughters. They were married to their cousins.Mareya was known to be a founder of the Usan church.
An incident in her life that she had confided in her son Daniel was that she as a student had been boarded at a school where the principal was a missionary ( Uduvil Girls College ). This lady had told her of a dream that Mareya had received 6 bananas all of which were of the same size and that one of them fell to the ground. Mareya was asked to pick this one up as she was told that this too was hers. When asked for the meaning, she was told that she would have six sons or six Daughters and that one of them would be born with a defect. Like wise she had six sons,the last of whom(Daniel) was born blind. Mareya never gave up . She fasted and prayed for 31 days and it is said that on the 31st day Daniel opened his eyes.
Mareya is known to have played an instrumental role in the renovation and expansion of the Usan C.S.I church
