I am researching the "Perrers" family name. Until recently it was thought the name was nearly lost. The last known remaining male of this rare surname has to date had two daughters. The pressure was on and the elders in the family were all watching in interest.
I set about searching the world for others of this name.

So far my research has taken me back to 1782 when a Henry Wilson Perrers. There is no record of his birth. He married Rachel Ribouleau in St Marys Portsmouth in 1811. SHe Died in 1812. Henry Remarried Lucy Collins in Holsworthy , Devon. Their family resulted in 3 males to pass on the name. Only one of those had sons, 4 of them , and 2 girls. This family Migrated to Australia, Adelaide in 1859, leaving 1 boy in Devon.

The Australian branch as far as we know to date, resulted in 4 more boys in the next generation. One of those died in WW1, one remained childless , one had 2 daughters, and two sons had a son and daughter each. Of those 2 males in the next generation one died in WW2 and the other had 4 daughters and then finally a son in 1964. This last Australian Perrers to date has 2 daughters.

So After discovering all these ancestors and where they fitted in , I set about searching for any Perrers , any where else in the world, to take the pressure off my poor cousin. Perhaps the one son left in devon in 1859 went on to produce boys. The internet came to the rescue. In the Scottish white pages I discovered a Perrers living in a small Scottish town. I hesitantly rang - and yes he was a Perrers - he was 82 , and he didn't know there were any other Perrers anywhere else in the world - He had tried looking many years before - but ended up thinking they were the only ones. And did he have any sons? Yes He has 2 sons living in Scotland. And any Grandsons? Yes, 2 aged 15 and 18. The excitement was great and the relief for my cousin immense; 2 other males, yet to reach reproducing age , to share the burden of keeping this rare name alive.

I would be grateful for any contributions any one has regarding this name. I know much of Alice Perrers ,the well known mistress of King Edward 111, who died in 1400 with uncertainty about her parentage or any issue from her. To discover a link between her and my family would be very interesting , however unlikely. There was possibly a Hertfordshire family of Perrers at that time so this is of interest to me.

My research back stops at in 1782 when Henry Wilson Perrers was baptised, but not born. So if anyone has any ideas of where to look to find out where he came from and who his parents were I would be grateful
