| I am researching the history of my husband's family, ASSELL (includes SMART/STRIDE/HENLEY) and my family, WALKER (includes BEAL/JOHNSTON/BURSILL). Both families appear to originate in England, the ASSELL family come from Kings Lynn in Norfolk and the WALKER family from Greenwich and Deptford. One Walker branch, the Beal family go back to George Beal who was born about 1780 and was the publican of the Angel in Rainham, Essex from at least 1822 until his death in 1841. The Angel Inn still exists in Rainham although it has been modenised but the church they attended and where the family was christened, married and buried is still much as it was then. One of George Beal's many children, Emma Beal, remained unmarried and was a confectioner living in Market Place, Romford in 1881. A branch of the ASSELL family emigrated to the U.S.A. from Kings Lynn somewhere between 1852 and 1880. A notice of the death of Phillis Maria ASSELL, nee BILLING, on 27th April 1881 in the U.S.A., was placed in the local Kings Lynn local paper, probably the easieast way of letting all her relatives know. At present I haven't done any research on the american Assell family. I also have information on a few other Assells that I've picked up along the way. If you think they may be of use to you, or you have any information to share, please Email me. Feel free to explore the tree and photographs via the links below. |
