Welcome to the COLLINS FAMILY PAGE!
I am currently researching my family and learning something new everyday! My most of my research has been in the Spartanburg County area in South Carolina.

Other surnames of ancesters include: COLLINS, WILSON, HEMPLEY, COTHRAN, FOSTER - all from the areas of Spartanburg, Beech Springs, Campobello, Pacolet, Cherokee, Fingerville, and Inman.

My great-great-great grandfather was Herbert C. COLLINS. He was born abt. 1802. He married Cuziah "Cozzie" Wilson. As late as 1880 they were living in Beech Springs, SC. They had 9 children (listed with approx. birthdates - and best spelling of names!): Lozo - 1820, Rosana - 1820 - 1832, Martin - 1825, William - 1833, Mary - 1835, Eliza - 1840, Mima - 1844, William Pinckney (my direct line) - August 7, 1845 and died February 11, 1912, and Margaret - 1847.

My great-great grandfather was William Pinckney COLLINS (known commonly as W.P.). He married Elizabethe HEMPLEY. They had 7 children: Ed, Effie, Mannie, Joe - 1871, Samuel Egbert (my direct line) who was born September 22, 1874 and died January 20, 1955, Minnie - 1875, and Ola - 1878. W.P. owned and operated a Mill near Holly Springs. He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church where he and his wife are buried.

I have been fairly successful with the remaining family members and there are a lot of us! However, I NEED HELP!

I have been unsuccessful in linking Herbert to a known Father, therefore the research is becoming difficult to accomplish. Below are some strong links but I can't seem to put the pieces together. If you have any info, PLEASE share it!

A will was recorded for John Collins on April 8, 1841 which listed two sons, Thomas B. and John S. Also, two daughters, Sarah (Collins) SWANZY - deceased as of the writing of the will in 1830, and E. Martha (Collins) WESTMORELAND. His wife is believed to have been Edy Collins.

A land transaction document dated July 4, 1804 shows a sale of property by Joseph Collins, possibly married to Elizabeth B. Collins. In this deed, a reference is made that the land was part of a grant to Alexander COLLINS.

It is believed that the first white child born in the Spartanburg District was a COLLINS with direct kinship to my family. The Father was believed to be an english trapper.

Also, historical books have acknowledged that a Collins family was a part of the first group to settle in Spartanburg, along with approximately 7 other families.

Who is Herbert's Father? John S. Collins???
- - John M. Collins is the Father of John S. Collins, so..
Could Alexander Collins be the Father or Grandfather of John M. Collins?

Thanks for any information you might have! Happy researching!
