John enrolled in the 2nd Life Guards in 1818 at the age of 20. Born at Halleton Leicestershire circa 1798. He married in 1819 at St Mary Marylebone and was subsequently barracked at Regents Park Barracks.

He was discharged on 27 July 1840 on medical grounds.

On the marriage certificate of his son John Henry Barsby in 1843 he is shown as a labourer
