| Surnames of the Brasseur family: Aumell, Duhamel, Youmelle and Youmell. Also researching the Greenaway and Landes families. BRASSEUR, Francois, dit (called) Duhamel, first name which left trace in New-France, was the son of Francois and of Genevieve Villet, and was born in the parish of Notre-Dame-du-Hamel (in the Somme, France), in the diocese of Amiens, in Picardy. That is why his descendants are called "Brasseur, called Duhamel". Some of them even abandoned the surname of Brasseur, to keep only "Duhamel". In Sainte Genevieve (County of Jacques Cartier), on July 29 1765, Francois Brasseur married Marie-Angelique Jerome,(21 years old), daughter of Mathieu Jerome, master-smith, and of Marie-Louise Leduc. The marriage contract was signed in front of the "notaire" (a civil servant, barrister, perhaps) by the name of Soupras, on July 27th 1765. This is where this peaceful farmer died at 78. He was buried in Vaudreuil, on August 25, 1807. His wife joined him in death on December 13 1809, at 63. From their marriage were born 13 children: 7 boys and 6 girls. One son Amable Brasseur (the continuing ancestor), who married Josephte Brabant in Vauetreuil, Quebec in November 11, 1802. They had a son, Andre' Brasseur, who married Esther St. Julien in Rigaud, Quebec in July 30, 1832. They had a son, Augustin Michel Brasseur (also known as Michael DuAumell), who married Christine Deschamps in St. Andrew, West Ontario in November 21, 1864. They had a son, Daniel Aumell(my great-grandpa), who married Kate Closs in Gilby North Dakota. They had a son, Stanley Aumell(my Grandpa), who married Angela Holden in Bozeman Montana, 1937. They had a son, Joe Aumell (my dad), who married Mary Landes in Wenatchee Washington, January 25, 1964. They have a son, Jeff Aumell (myself), who married Bridget Mathews in Seattle Washington, June 1, 1991. We have two sons, Austin Aumell born Januaray 9, 1995 and Aidan Aumell born February 2, 1998. Currently, there are Aumell's living in the Pacific Northwest of the United States mostly western Washington (Seattle, Bothell, Issaquah, Federal Way) and in eastern Washington (Wenatchee and Spokane). Some Aumell's live out of state in New York City, Helena MT, and Santa Fe NM. There are also Aumell's from a different lineage living in New York along the Canadian border near the St. Lawrence River. And there are still Aumell's living in Ontario and Quebec Canada near the St. Lawrence River as well as Brasseur's. The Canadian Youmelle came from the Cornwall and St. Andrew's Ontario district while the American Youmell came from Tupper Lake and Brasher Falls N.Y. and others from Springfield MA and another group from the Cleveland Ohio district. All of us are distant cousins, descendants of the original Francois Brasseur. |
