Many of these families are traced back to their days in Southside Virginia, the original area of Halifax, Lunenburg, and Pittsylvania Counties in Virginia. Their migration was generally along the Virginia and North Carolina Border to the general area of The New River Valley area of those two states. Around 1796 some of these families were in the easternmost parts of north Tennessee. From there the majority ventured to WAYNE COUNTY and other parts of KENTUCKY. From roughly 1810 some of the families migrated to TennAlaGa area (present day CHATTANOOGA, TN METRO area). The primary counties included Franklin, Rhea, Warren, Bledsoe, Marion & Hamilton in Tennessee, Jackson, & DeKalb in Alabama, Dade & Walker in Georgia. The other families continued to migrate into TennAlaGa until around 1870. After the Civil War the families started their westward migration to Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. Eventually, as with most early families, they spread across the United States. Much of this history is reflected here.
