Thomas Aveling bought "HORSEGATE HOUSE" from John Laxon in October 1752. 257 Years later the house still stands. Thomas Aveling descended from Geoffrey Avelin of Whittlesey who made his Will the 5th April 1478. Thomas Aveling's great grandson George Smith Aveling who was born in Horsegate House migrated to Australia in October 1853, arriving in Melbourne aboard the South Carolina on the 4th January 1854 his descendants still live in Melbourne,Victoria, Australia.
