Notes for Thomas Averill: Thomas Averill, Wells and York, bp. 7 Jan 1630 at Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, son of Wm. and Abigail (Hinton) who came to Topsfield. He came to Wells bef. 1671 and settled far inland, near the headline of South Berwick, in a region afterw. dist. by the ruins of his chimney, "Averill's Back." At the approach of the 2nd War he withdrew to Cape Neddick, and thence to Chebacco, in Ipswich. In 1672 his wife was Hannah. He and his wife's last years were spent in York, on the shore east of Cape Neddick, where his oldest son had his land was granted adm. of his estate 7 Apr 1714.
