I am researching the Hubbard, Clark, Sturdivant, McQuade, Strange, McLemore, Murphy, Holden and Dollar surnames. Most of my immediate ancestors (grandparents) are from the North Louisiana area. Some of their parents are from Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama. My father's great-great gradfather (William Henry Larkin Hubbard) is originally from Bell County, VA/KY. Supposedly his ancestors arrived in the colonies on one of the first boats to America. I would love more information or ideas on how to research this. A very interesting story concerns the McQuade/Strange surnames. Neomy Ann McQuade was my father's grandfather. The family story says that when she was around age two, her mother, Mattie Strange, died. Neomy's father, James McQuade, then married Mattie's twin, Mandy. Mandy didn't want to take care of my dad's grandmother so Neomy ended up being adopted by a couple named Holly. I would especially like more information on this part of my family history.
