Descendants of William Evans

Generation No. 2

2. WILLIAM2 EVANS (WILLIAM1) was born Abt. June 1819 in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales (Source: FamilySearch Ancestral File on CD-Rom at the State Library Death Certificate 2502), and died 18 January 1897 in 12 Claredon Street, South Melbourne, Vic. Aust. (Source: Death Certificate 2502). He married MATILDA MARIA PHILLIPS Abt. 1838 in Monmouthshire, England (Source: Death Certificate 13689 Death Certificate 2502), daughter of JOHN PHILLIPS and ANN MORGAN. She was born Abt. 1822 in Monmouth, Wales (Source: FamilySearch Ancestral File on CD-Rom at the State Library Death Certificate 13689), and died 15 December 1886 in 12 Claredon Street, South Melbourne, Vic. Notes for W
ILLIAM EVANS:
**** William and Matilda married in England and had a son and daughter (William John & Emily) before emigrating to Port Phillip.

*** William (29), Matilda (26), William (8) & Emily (3) arrived at Port Phillip on the ship 'Lysander' on the 13 Jan 1849. William was a Carpenter. Naive Place and County was listed as Nantyglau (Nantyglo?) Monmouthshire. Their religion was Baptist. They could all read and write apart from Emily.

*** They had four more children. Tom born in Melbourne and then Joseph, Rosena and Eleanor born in Collingwood. Joseph was 3 yrs 3 mths and Rosena was aged under 1 yr when they died.
I can find no further records of Emily. Possibly died on the ship coming over???
(Also there is a big gap between William John & Emily's births - 6 yrs - possibly there could have been more children born inbetween these two which did not live for long???)
