The information on this site traces my line of the Babcock family for about 15 generations beginning with James Badcock, "The Immigrant," who arrived in Rhode Island from England some time prior to 1642. Also posted here is my line of the True family for about 12 generations beginning with Henry True "of Salem" who immigrated from England to Salem, MA, probably in 1644. The Genealogy Reports for both lines contain the names and dates and personal Notes on individuals.

Most of the research was done by my father, Oscar True (O.T.) Babcock in the 1930s and 1940s, mainly through letters and conversations with living relatives and through information from THE BABCOCK GENEALOGY by Stephen Babcock, 1903. My major task has been to transfer my father's handwritten and typed records into the Family Tree Maker computer program. I've also updated the information he had and made corrections where indicated, again relying on contact with living relatives through email, letters, newspaper clippings, etc.

One of my major goals has been to gather as much personal information as has been available on the lives of the people whose names appear here. I wanted to compile a Family History that was more than just lists of names and dates, but would help these people "come alive" and appear as "real people" to their descendants. This information, quite extensive for some and, unfortunately, almost wholly lacking for many, can be found in the Notes for the various individuals.

Posted on this site as a Book is a collection of stories written by my grandfather, E.J. Babcock, together with an Introduction I wrote. The stories relate some of the exciting experiences of his family when they settled as true pioneers in the North Loup River valley in central Nebraska in 1872.

Much of the information here, along with a great deal more, can be found at: http://fp1.antelecom.net/vredenb/babcock/, a website hosted by a cousin, Larry Vredenburgh. I'll be happy to share any information that I have on The Babcock family or the other families mentioned above. I welcome additional information on any people who appear in these documents or any errors that need to be corrected.
