The Elizabeth Baca Flanary Family Homepage

Updated September 5, 2000

I am just beginning to assemble data from my family history. The surnames on my tree are: Baca*, Blea*, Sandoval*, Montano*, Valencia*, Herrera*, Shaw, Lujan. Nearly all births* have been linked to New Mexico as far back as late 1800's. I am looking for distant relatives or any information on the origins of the above names. Re: Baca, oral tradition says that our first spanish ancestor was named Cabeza de Vaca who came from Lousiana and settled in Las Cruces, NM. I have not been able to link to him yet. This would have been probably in the mid-to early 1800's. I would like to know when the name was changed to Baca. I know there is alot of history on the Baca name in CO and NM, but I live out of state. Re: the other names, I do not know much. Montano has been linked to Basque. Shaw is Irish out of New York. I hope someone with some knowledge about these names or info. on how I can research them on-line can give me advice. If you think you might be a relative check out my family trees.
