| I am researching the BACIOCCO family from the time Bartolomeo (aka Bert) BACIOCCO first arrived in Stockton, California, from Italy ca 1885. He married Rose CANESSA in 1890 and they had 6 children. According to Bert's obituary, shortly after arriving in Stockton, he attended a party where his hosts spoke of the charms of their niece, Rose, who was still in Italy. It was wagered that Bert would not be courageous enough to send for her. He proved them wrong, and two years later she arrived in Stockton. They built their first home near the spot where Bert had spent his first night in Stockton, in a grove of oak trees, now the campus of the University of the Pacific. He later became one of the most successful fruit and vegetable farmers in the county. Other names listed in Bert and Rose's obits are Bert's sisters-Mrs. George Delaney and Mrs. Annie Turri and Rose's brothers are Joseph and Simon Canessa. Bert, Rose, and their 6 children are all buried in the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery. I started this research so my children would know from where they came. It is a work in progress and some of the older dates may be somewhat off due to the sources I have used. I am also researching the following names: CARNEAL, PACK, PLOTKIN, HARRIS, DES MEAUX (Dismukes) I would appreciate any information you could share, and would be happy to share all I have. |
