I am actively searching my family history and developing a geneology. My wife's family surnames are HIGHTOWER and McLOUGHLIN and are primarily from the southern states of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. My fathers ancestors include SCHIRMER (German) and SANDERS primarily from the Ghent area of Kentucky (see book Grass Hills of Kentucky for early family history). My mothers side is dominated by Irish and Scotish surnames include McDANIEL, RAMSEY, and GORDON who primarily lived in Rush and Shelby counties of Indiana. I have information on the Schirmer, Sanders, Hightower, McDaniel, and Gordon going back to colonial american days. My mother (Evelyn McDaniel) had 14 children by different husbands, so I am also gathering information about the extended family whoes names include PATTON, ROUSE, CRISP, HAHN, and DEATHRIDGE.I am one of four children of Robert H. Schirmer and Katherine McDonald (alias) who were adopted into the Backman family. I also have the BACKMAN ancestry from the 18th century in Finland.

  • Tom Backman Ancestrial and Extended Family (373 KB)
My family has a rich history dating back to colonial times. Finnish, Irish, Scottish, and German lineages predominate. Most common surnames are McDaniel, Schirmer, Hightower, McLoughlin, Gordon Sanders, and Backman. This represents a work in progress as numerous lineages are incomplete. If you can find a connection to your family please feel free to use this, in return I would like to add your information to my records. This is a skeleton of history, I am also gathering information about the people and their times.
